Legal Assistance Clinic by UB SL Now Open to the Public

Seeking legal advice? Those in need of legal aid may now avail of free legal services from the Legal Assistance Center at the University of Baguio.

Following the slogan of “Serving the Least, the Lost, and the Last”, the UB Legal Assistance Center seeks to provide legal services to residents of Baguio and neighboring communities that would otherwise not be able to afford private services.

The center was established by the UB School of Law (SL) and was officially opened to the public on September 8, 2023 in a ceremony attended by Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla alongside UB President Javier Herminio Bautista, Dean Atty. John Ray Libiran from the UB SL, and Department of Justice (DOJ) Undersecretaries Raul Vasquez and Jose Cadiz Jr.

Law students practitioners (LSP) in the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) will be heading operations under the mentorship of Atty. Cherry Dane Augustin. The CLEP is a compulsory course for law students set to take the bar exams in 2023. The program aims to give LSPs a practical training ground to hone their skills and put their knowledge into practice through law clinics or externships in courts, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), government offices, or law school-recognized non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

The center is an active initiative of the UB SL to help the community, especially the underprivileged, by making legal services accessible and readily available to those in need. It is an expansion of the Legal Clinic that was opened by the UB SL in March of 2023, and it shares the goal of providing valuable legal services to the general public while also serving as a practical training ground for LSPs.

The services offered at the center include legal advice and the assistance with legal documents such as affidavits, pleadings, and contracts to name a few.

The Legal Assistance Center is located along the first floor of the F Building and is open from 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday and from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturday.
